A few weeks have passed since I was in Germany working on the above details, so it was nice to receive some shots of the work in progress today. The glass treatments have moved on a stage further. I’m pleased because everything seems to be exactly as I’d wished, with some beautiful blending of colour, contrasted with detail and texture in other areas.

I’ve spent this week in Germany at Derix Studios who are fabricating my glass for two current projects. Above are two full scale working drawings for the BHOC commission. It’s made things far more tangible seeing the designs enlarged in colour. I’ve spent a lot of time carefully selecting the glass and enamel colours, and have been working closely with a studio artist discussing the details and producing samples and possible textures. A really exciting stage in the commission!

BHOC is currently undergoing a redevelopment programme known as Refresh. As part of this scheme I’m working on a series of five glass panels for the buildings stairwells. Ideas for the work are centred around “a sense of place” and refer to Woodland, Flower Garden, Water Garden, Beach and Bristol Harbour. The making of the glass is due to begin soon.

designs for current private commission

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

I’m working through a series of ideas for a private commission. The idea is based on the clients vision of a tryptic of sky/birds land /flowers water/fish. Many drawings have been produced and adjusted over the last couple of weeks. Here are two which are beginning to feel right.
