Unrealised Glass Project

In the early part of 2013 I spent time working on a tender to design a wall of glass for a new tube station in Songshan, Taiwan. The designs were partly inspired by a painting that I made a year earlier titled “Synthesis”. The call for submissions was international and open to practices working in any media, so I entered knowing there was only a slim chance of shortlisting, which turned out to be the case. This familiar situation is one that I have got used to over the years, but it made me think how many of the best ideas go unmade. It would be easy to forget about the designs and resign them to a pile of unrealised concepts. However, six months later I’m still finding the ideas interesting enough to hope they can feed into a future architectural glass project, or at least provide a platform for future studio based research and sample development.
