I was commissioned to produce glass for the buildings five stairwells as part of the BHOC refurbishment program Refresh, in order to add interest to each level, distract from the unsightly views without enclosing and act as way finding markers. During the early stages of this commission the idea of a sense of place evolved with other artists working on the Refresh project. The glass reflects this, referencing five outdoor environments that people can immediately identify with. L1. Flower Garden. L2 Water Garden. L3 The Beach. L4 Forrest Walk. L5 Bristol Harbour. Each work spans the full width of the stairwell, partially hidden as one descends or climbs the stairs, and coming into full view as the landing is reached.
